Moultonborough Retreat

Jutting out into Winnipesaukee on a private peninsula, this property required a landscape that would complement the Adirondack-style home and quiet surroundings. Using natural stone, preserving native trees and shrubs, and carefully considering how the owner uses the property resulted in outdoor spaces that make this property unique.

Larger homes require landscape features of similar scale to balance the feel of the property. Belknap Tree and Plant specialists ensured large native trees were healthy and expertly pruned to create sweeping vistas.

Strategically maintained and nurtured native shrubs and small trees provided a vegetative barrier for lake health, and privacy screening from passing boaters.

Facing the lake, a custom masonry firepit is the centerpiece of a natural stone patio for cool-evening relaxation. Steps away, a small circular patio provides a sitting space to enjoy the lake views.

Another natural stone patio runs the entire lake side of the home, and features a sitting and dining area, and grill. The area is enclosed by a custom stone surround. This patio helps span the transition into the home from the rolling lawn, host to family games and cornhole competitions.

The rear of the home hosts the main entryway. Entrance and egress are made through stone pathways and stepping stones meandering through a custom-designed garden featuring annual flowers and specimen trees. Weathered boulders were installed throughout the property to complement the softscapes while appearing to have been on the property forever.

Landscape lighting helped this property come alive after sunset. Beautiful and dramatic effects were created using uplights, downlights, spotlights, and pathway lighting. Lighting control can be set to automatic or selectively changed using a smartphone application for stargazing.

Once built, the Belknap Landscape team assumed property care and maintenance to ensure the owners’ investment is protected and the property is ready for use when needed. Our garden services team regularly visits to prune, weed, and deadhead the gardens. The turfgrass team assures the lawn is healthy through a program that includes dethatching, overseeding, careful fertilization, weed control, and a consistent mowing schedule. The Belknap Tree and Plant team checks for pests, plant diseases, and fungi, and proactively provides pruning services and tree risk assessments. As with all of our properties, each of these specialties is leveraged and directed by the property’s dedicated account manager, assuring the homeowner optimal convenience in caring for their property.
